The DE10 model locomotives, affiliated with JR Freight's Sendai General Railway Division, played significant roles in pulling freight trains on the Ishinomaki line and shunting at the Sendai Freight Terminal. However, due to the replacement by the DD200 model, they retired from regular operation in 2022. Even after retirement from regular service, substitute operations by the DD200 allowed them to remain active. Units No. 1539 and 1591 persisted until January 2025.
The No. 1539 was among the initial models manufactured in the 1500 series with distinctive features like the DT132A wheelset.
The No. 1591, restored to its original JNR colors in 2016, served in the Sendai area throughout its operating life.
