Celebrating the release of the movie "YUKIKAZE," this special edition product captures the legacy of the Yukikaze, the 8th ship of the Kagero-class destroyers. Commissioned in January 1940 at the Sasebo Naval Arsenal, Yukikaze was famously known as the "lucky ship" for its ability to withstand numerous battles virtually unscathed, particularly in the Western Pacific region, including the Philippines.
During the latter stages of World War II, Yukikaze took part in the Ten-Go Operation, a naval attack on Okinawa, championing alongside the battleship Yamato. Despite the fate of many ships, including Yamato being sunk or severely damaged, Yukikaze and Hatsushimo emerged unscathed. They, along with other lightly damaged vessels like Fuyutsuki, contributed to the rescue of injured soldiers.
Returning from the war, Yukikaze survived minor damage from an air raid in Maizuru and was active until the war's conclusion. Post-war, the vessel played a vital role in transporting demobilized personnel as a repatriation transport vessel.
In due course, by the end of 1946, Yukikaze was designated a war reparation ship and transferred to the Republic of China Navy in July 1947. Re-armed to serve as Dan Yang, although there was a campaign for its return to Japan, the ship was eventually dismantled in 1971 due to aging.
