With season three on the horizon, there is no time like the present to venture into the alternate timeline set amidst brewing tensions between the nations of Westalis and Ostania. But why focus on Cold War-style geopolitics when the anime offers an endearing storyline that features complex characters navigating daily life despite their anything-but-ordinary careers and school life? Oh, and did we mention the best dog, Bond?

Mashle
A boy with an unusual and mysterious past and mysteriously super-human strength is whisked away to a magical wizarding school where he teams up with an unlikely squad of students who want to save the wizarding world from an equally mysterious (but sinister) power. Mashle and his friends fight evil wizards, make friends, and navigate school life. Sound familiar? We’re not sure, we’re too busy stuffing our faces with cream puffs.
Jujutsu Kaisen
Speaking of magical schools with unnaturally strong heroes, Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the decisively darker top anime in 2024. Slated to reach its finale this year, it is a perfect opportunity to catch up and enjoy this crowd-favorite anime in real time, or shall we say, “Die surrounded by people?” As we said, it’s rather grimdark, in a way that Japanese Manga and Anime pull off with unrivaled levels of thought-provoking sophistication. Follow Yuji Idatori and his entourage as they journey from unwitting high school students to “Culling Games” participants and leaders in challenging far greater powers.
Delicious in Dungeon
While still battling monsters and demons, Delicious in Dungeon is a much lighter but clever anime where “Food Wars” meets “Monster Hunter.” In other words, despite that this story’s setting is a Medieval European fantasy, it has all the characteristics of a charming, bona fide Japanese delight! If you get hungry while watching this top anime in 2024, we don’t blame you - good thing we have snacks!
Moonlit Fantasy
Isekai, or “other world” anime, is a popular genre for very good reasons. This particular fantasy follows the adventure of high schooler Makoto Misumi as he loses and gains both powers and his sense of place, all the while battling gods, magical beings, and — most importantly, himself.
