About the JASDF F-104J Fighter “Glory”
The F-104J fighter was selected as the successor to the F-86F, which supported the early days of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. With a compact, lightweight airframe and a powerful engine, it boasted high stability even at supersonic speeds exceeding Mach 2, earning it the nickname “the last manned fighter.” A total of 210 units were deployed, including imported aircraft, primarily produced domestically. From the 1960s until the deployment of the F-15J in 1986, it played a key role in Japan’s air defense. Within the Self-Defense Forces, it was affectionately known as “Glory,” though today it is more commonly referred to as “Maruyon.”
About the Kit
This kit is a completely new design using newly tooled molds for 2025. Like the actual aircraft, the rear section of the fuselage can be detached, allowing for display with the engine exposed. The fuselage is divided along panel lines, while the rear section is molded as a single piece, achieving a structure that allows for a beautiful finish with minimal stress. Newly tooled in 2025.
