Description

The EF65-500 series is a DC electric locomotive that first appeared in 1965. Unit number 501, which is also considered the top number, was the only one from the 500 series to be inherited by JR East. It had been actively serving primarily for temporary trains in the Takasaki area for many years, but its operations came to a close in November 2024, marking the retirement of unit 501 along with the end of service for electric and diesel locomotives at the Gunma Vehicle Center.
