The EF81 is an AC/DC dual-mode electric locomotive developed in 1968.
Product overview:
This model reproduces the EF81s from the Aomori Train Center that were used to haul the Akebono and Hakutsuru sleeper express trains. After the Hakutsuru service ended in 2003, EF81 numbers 136 and 139 were modified with double-headed couplers for use transporting trains to factories and other equipment. Until 2009 these locomotives pulled the Akebono between Ueno and Aomori; from 2009 the Ueno to Nagaoka section was handled by EF64 locomotives and the EF81s operated between Nagaoka and Aomori.
