Tomix 7450 JNR Diesel Car Type KIHA 17 (M) (N scale)

The type KIHA 17 was introduced in 1953, based on the KIHA 44500 prototype for a liquid-fuel diesel vehicle. Early formations operated with KIHA 17 cars alone or with intermediate cars such as KIHA 18 and KIROHA 18. After the introduction of successor vehicles from the type KIHA 20 onward, mixed consists with those types became common. The KIHA 17 featured a narrower body and lower seat back height to reduce weight, so its passenger amenities were less advanced than later designs like the KIHA 55. Due to aging and wear, the KIHA 17 fleet was gradually replaced by the type KIHA 40 and withdrawn by around 1980.
