The Meitetsu series 5200 entered service in 1957. It featured a front-through design, and only leading cars were manufactured so that the trains could be operated in two-car formations.
In 1964, when the series 5000—previously operated in six-car formations—was reconfigured into four-car formations, intermediate cars from the series 5000 were incorporated into the series 5200 (except for one formation), and they began operating as four-car trains.
From 1978, special refurbishment work was carried out, during which the side windows were replaced with unit windows.
The trains were used for services such as “Express” for many years, but all were withdrawn from service by 1987. Some of the running equipment was reused in the series 5300, while the car bodies were transferred to Toyohashi Railroad and operated as the series 1900.
-The train can be motorized to an N scale train and is compatible with TM-13R Motorized Chassis, TT-04R Trailer Conversion Kit, and Tomix 6707 Pantograph.
