Oita Kotsu is a bus company that mainly operates in the northern part of Oita Prefecture, with its service area centered around Oita City and extending northward.
It operates local bus routes such as Oita–Beppu, Kitsuki–Kunisaki, and Beppu city to Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU), as well as airport access buses like the “Airliner” to Oita Airport. The company also runs express bus services, including the Fukuoka line “Toyonokuni-go” and the Nagasaki line “Sunlight-go.”
Together with its group companies—Daiko Hokubu Bus, Kunisaki Kanko Bus, and Kusu Kanko Bus—it maintains an extensive route network covering northern Oita Prefecture.
In the past, the company also operated railway lines such as the Beppu-Oita Line, Kunisaki Line, Yabakei Line, Hoshū Line, and Usa Sangū Line. Its predecessor, Hōshū Electric Railway, was established in August 1896 with the aim of operating a streetcar between Beppu and Oita. The company will celebrate its 130th anniversary in 2026.
