The series 227, which began operations in 2015, is a commuter train running primarily in the Hiroshima area, serving both local and rapid trains. The train's body features a red theme inspired by the torii of Itsukushima Shrine and the maple tree, which is the symbol of Hiroshima Prefecture. It is branded with the nicknames "Red Wing" and the "Hiroshima City Network" logo. As of January 2025, there are 63 sets of 3-car formations and 42 sets of 2-car formations in service.
