The Series 227, which began operation in 2015, is a commuter train running mainly in the Hiroshima area, serving as both local and rapid trains. The train's body prominently features a "red" theme, inspired by the torii of Itsukushima Shrine and the maple tree, which is the official tree of Hiroshima Prefecture. It is branded with the "Red Wing" nickname and the "Hiroshima City Network" logo.
As of January 2025, there are 63 three-car sets and 42 two-car sets in operation.
