The Series 227 is a commuter train that began operations in 2015, serving primarily in the Hiroshima area as both local and rapid services. The train features a body with a "red" theme inspired by the torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine and the maple tree, the symbolic tree of Hiroshima Prefecture. It is branded with the "Red Wing" nickname and the "Hiroshima City Network" logo. As of January 2025, there are 63 formations of three-car sets and 42 formations of two-car sets in operation.
