The series 211-3000 is a commuter train introduced in 1986 with long bench seating and cold and snow resistant specifications to replace early non air conditioned series 115 cars. It was mainly used on the Takasaki Line and other major routes such as the Utsunomiya Line, and was removed from those services in 2014 with the introduction of the successor series E233-3000.
Since 2016 the series 211-3000 has been reassigned to local services around Takasaki, replacing older series 107 and 115 cars. Sets have been shortened to four or three cars. In 2021, as part of a Ryomo Line revitalization project, one four car set A28 was repainted with a motif inspired by yagasuri arrow patterned textiles, combining the Ryomo Line yellow stripe with the green of the surrounding mountains.
These trains are currently in service on the Ryomo Line and other lines serving the Takasaki area, including the Shinetsu Main Line, the Joetsu Line, and the Agatsuma Line.
