The 223 Series 2000 Subtype is a commuter train introduced in 1999 to replace the 113 Series and 117 Series trains on the Tokaido and Sanyo Main Lines. Based on the 1000 subtype, cost reductions were made, and over 600 units were produced by 2008, making it the most numerous subtype.
The first batch appeared between 1999 and 2000. Compared to later additions, this group featured tinted window glass and included some MOHA222-2000 cars with certain equipment omitted. Around 2015, additional safety features were installed, including fall prevention bellows on the front cars, the removal of operation number displays, and wipers added to some cars above the connecting doors.
- Wipers have been added to the connecting doors, and the windows on these doors have been resized. Replacement connecting door parts without wipers on the front windows are included.
- The fall prevention bellows have been redesigned and newly manufactured, compatible with existing products, and will be available as separate parts.
- A newly crafted coupler includes a two-stage electric connector installation section.
- The roofs of the KUMOHA223, MOHA222, and MOHA223 differ from the third batch.
- The front windows reflect the current replacement style in green, while the side windows feature the original first batch smoke style.
- The front car headlights function regardless of direction when cars are coupled.
- The train includes the extended representation of the front car's obstacle deflector lower section.
- JR logo is pre-printed.
- The front display is equipped with a pre-printed "A New Rapid Himeji" sign, and replacement parts are included.
- Car numbers come with a transfer sheet for selection.
- Headlights, taillights, and the front display section are equipped with a constant lighting circuit board and an On-Off switch.
- Lighting is provided by white LED for headlights, taillights, and the front display section.
- The front car's driver・€・s cabin side is equipped with a small TN coupler (SP).
- Equipped with a flywheel motor.
- Utilizes a new power collection system with silver wheels.
- Employs an M-13 motor.
