The series 225-100 train was introduced in 2016. The six-car series 100 set added in 2021 currently has 14 trains in service. From January 2024 the Biwako Otsu Murasaki Shikibu and Rain set will be wrapped in a special design inspired by the Ishiyama Pilgrimage in collaboration with Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture. It is mainly used on the Kyoto Line, Biwako Line, Kobe Line, and Ako Line.
