The series 227 is a commuter train introduced in 2015, operating as local and rapid services mainly around Hiroshima. The train body is red, inspired by the torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine and the maple tree, Hiroshima Prefecture’s symbol. It carries the nickname Red Wing and the Hiroshima City Network logo.

- Renewed front design inspired by the series 225 A-seat, series 521, and series 323
- Model reproduces the appearance of later production trains
- Front destination display is replaceable; pre-printed replacement parts are included
- Fall-prevention hood for the leading car is a separate part; two types included: one for leading cars and one for coupled cars
- Car numbers, various logos, and JR mark are printed
- Head and tail lights use white LEDs; fog lights use color prisms to reproduce yellow lighting
- Head and tail lights and front display include a constant-voltage lighting board with an ON/OFF switch
- Driver’s cab side of the leading car is fitted with a TN coupler (SP)
- Equipped with a power unit that includes a flywheel
- Features a new current collection system and silver-colored wheels
