Direct rail transport of gasoline between bases began in 1967, and even today many trains with tank cars operate in the Kanto, Tohoku, and Chubu areas. Some trains run with TAKI 1000 and TAKI type 43000 cars coupled together, and sometimes container freight cars are also attached, providing a wide variety of formations.
