About the Real Aircraft
The F-4 Phantom II is an iconic jet fighter developed by the United States, which has been used by various countries since its first deployment in the 1960s and continued into the 2000s. Originally designed as a carrier-based fighter for the United States Navy, the F-4 was later adopted by the United States Air Force and Marine Corps and became popular among many Western countries. This versatile aircraft led to the creation of various derivative types, including reconnaissance versions. The RF-4E, a reconnaissance model, was employed by Japan's Air Self-Defense Force from 1971. Known as the Recon Phantom, the RF-4E was stationed at the 501st Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron at Hyakuri Air Base, excelling in information collection and playing a crucial role during disaster response. The RF-4E was retired in 2019, with its last flight showcased at public events at Hyakuri Air Base in 2019.
About the Model
This model kit accurately recreates the RF-4E Phantom II of the Air Self-Defense Force's 501st Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron in standard camo, all in a 1/144 scale. The model specifically captures the aircraft adorned with special markings from the final tour at national air shows and events. The model authentically reflects the unique nose design of the reconnaissance-modified Recon Phantom and the delta wings exclusive to the Phantom II, complete with detailed panel lines for a realistic appearance. The kit includes decals meticulously representing the special markings from the final tour, featuring the shark teeth on the nose and the film-patterned motif on the fuselage, along with the official F-4 Phantom character illustration near the air intake. The completed model measures approximately 130mm in length, designed with a minimal number of parts for ease of assembly. This kit is a delight for collectors, offering a parallel scale model of the RF-4E (PF-29) in maritime camouflage from the final tour. Collectors are invited to build and enjoy both models.
