About the Real Aircraft
The MiG-21 is a celebrated Soviet fighter aircraft. It began service in 1959 and remains operational into the 2000s. Although production of its various types ceased earlier, this aircraft continues to be significant. Designed by the Mikoyan-Gurevich Design Bureau, the prototype first flew in 1955. It received its official MiG-21 designation in 1956. The first mass-produced version, known as the MiG-21F, led to further improved versions over time. Among them, the MiG-21bis is considered a pinnacle of the MiG-21 models. It had its maiden flight in 1971 and featured a Tumansky R-25-300 turbojet engine, achieving a top speed of 2175 km/h. Its fixed armament included a 23mm GSh-23L cannon. The aircraft featured four hardpoints capable of carrying up to 1300kg of weapons. This aircraft was widely deployed and operated beyond Soviet borders within the communist bloc nations.
About the Model
This model kit represents the MiG-21bis, the main variant in service during the 1970s and 1980s, in a 1/48 scale plastic assembly kit. It accurately replicates the iconic silhouette of the delta-winged MiG-21 Fishbed with its characteristic nose air intake. The kit parts are crafted by Eduard, ensuring reliable assembly. Features like the hump section behind the cockpit to the vertical tail are recreated as separate components for precise detailing. The model also captures detailed elements of the panel lines, cockpit, landing gears, and landing gear storage. The airbrake parts can be assembled in open or closed positions, offering choices in the final appearance of the finished model. The cockpit interior features detailed instrument panels and seats, and the canopy can be assembled either open or closed. The markings replicate the MiG-owned aircraft used for various tests and exhibitions, with unique color schemes different from combat-deployed units.
