- Mass production began in 1969, and it is said that 170 were produced until production ended in 1991, while undergoing capability enhancements through modifications.
- Deployed on U.S. Navy aircraft carriers, it was also used by the Marine Corps, demonstrating extensive activity.
- VAQ-134 Garudas, established in 1969, was one of the squadrons that operated the EA-6B Prowler, which also visited Japan.
