The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, developed as an advanced version of the F/A-18C/D Hornet, entered service in 1999. It features a larger airframe and increased fuel tank capacity, extending its range compared to the C/D model. It is powered by two F414-GE400 turbofan engines. Besides the fixed armament of a 20mm M61A1 Vulcan cannon, the expanded airframe includes 11 hardpoints capable of carrying most U.S. military ordnance. Known as a multirole aircraft, it excels in various missions. Since 2002, the VFA-115 Eagles, originally founded in 1942 as VT-11, have operated the F/A-18E out of Iwakuni, Japan.
