About the real aircraft
The T-2 was Japan’s first domestically developed supersonic trainer and served from first flight in 1971 through 2006. Powered by two Ishikawajima-Harima TF40-IHI-801A turbofan engines, it reached speeds up to Mach 1.6. Early unarmed variants were used for basic fighter training; later variants supported fighter pilot training with armament options. Approximately 1,450 pilots trained on the T-2 during its service.
