Introducing the third-generation Cresta, the X80 series, which made its debut in August 1988 as a complete model change from the previous X70 series. Despite continuing the design concept from its predecessor, the exterior design evolved into a more stylish look with curved surfaces, keeping in line with contemporary trends of that time. From this generation, all six-cylinder engine models featured DOHC 24 valves. The front suspension adopted a strut system, while the rear was equipped with a new double wishbone setup. Riding the wave of the booming bubble economy, it became a major hit, achieving the highest sales volume in its history when combined with the Mark II and Chaser models.
