In 1980 Yamaha released the XJ400, featuring a newly designed air-cooled DOHC four-cylinder engine with the generator mounted at the rear of the cylinders to reduce engine width. The bike was built on a luxurious frame with Yamaha’s flowing styling, equipped with front double disc brakes, a dual horn, and class-first instruments including a fuel gauge and voltmeter. Its lightweight, slim, and easy-to-handle design made the XJ400 a best-selling classic.
