Steel Rain is a 2.5-generation rotary-wing variable Hexa Gear.

Driven by the immense value of the crystal reactors, which became a catalyst for prolonged corporate warfare, people ignored the environmental management AI's warnings and continued to generate hexagrams without restraint. In response to the accelerating environmental degradation, the world's largest military-industrial complex, MSG, felt the urgency to end the conflict swiftly and embarked on developing a new generation of Hexa Gear with a transformative concept.

The completed model consists of an "Earlier Model," a rotary-wing apparatus akin to first-generation models with hexagram-powered propulsion, and a "Later Model," featuring a conversion system into a humanoid form. Though similar in appearance, these models show significant functional differences.

The Earlier Model stood out as one of the few remaining aircraft globally at the time. While it lacked unique features, it came equipped with options like dual 20mm Gatling guns, offering reliable ground attack capabilities which provided an edge over second-generation Hexa Gear.

The Later Model integrated advanced features such as a BMI and manipulators for rapid weapon swaps and cargo transport. Its convertible function allowed versatile ground combat, classifying it as a 2.5-generation Hexa Gear. However, its production cost soared to several times that of Bulk Armα units, marking it as a high-cost unit even among other second-generation Hexa Gear. 

The delicate aircraft required maintenance beyond a pilot's capacity, necessitating highly skilled ground support teams. Its optimal flight demanded a power consumption that was several times higher than the other Hexa Gear of its time.

This high operational cost, exaggerated by the transformation mechanisms of the Later Model, led some units to opt for the Earlier Model, considering it more cost-effective.

Deployment of the Steel Rain units in battle was consistently effective, justifying the investment, but maintaining such resource-heavy operations proved challenging. Known for storm-like advances, the units also earned a reputation for being the most feared Hexa Gear among adversaries.

The "steel rain" that appeared in the skies during battle unleashed a storm of bullets, ensuring silence to everything on the ground.
