DD51 class diesel locomotive introduced in 1962 as the main diesel locomotive for non-electrified trunk lines. At its peak there were 649 units, with variations developed for cold and warm regions and for passenger and freight services. DD51 locomotives that operated on Hokkaido passenger services adopted the image of the sleeper limited express Hokutosei after the opening of the Seikan Tunnel in 1988, and from the summer of 1988 all units were repainted in blue 20 with gold stripes and the Hokutosei logo on the cab.
HO gauge reproduction of the DD51 that mainly hauled the Hokutosei sleeper limited express.
