The series KIHA181 served as JR Shikoku’s limited express DMU from the JNR era and 44 cars were inherited after JR transition. Repainted into JR Shikoku corporate colors of ivory and sky blue, interiors were updated with reclining seats similar to KIHA185, and Kiroha 180 cars were converted into half Green car Kiroha 180 to meet increased service and shorter formations. The KIHA181 operated on services such as Nanpu, Ashizuri, Shimanto on the Dosan Line and Shiokaze, Ishizuchi, Uwakai on the Yosan Line until regular service withdrawal in 1993.
- Models the formations assigned to JR Shikoku Takamatsu Depot around 1991
- Accurately reproduces exterior changes: removal of tablet catchers and protection plates on KIHA181, JR radio antenna installation, sealed emergency doors and lower-body louvers, and removal of coupling-face dampers
- Recreates front rain gutter detail and distinctive horn shapes by car: shutter-type horns on KIHA181-38 and -103, slit-type horns on KIHA181-6, -34, -39, -40. KIHA181-39 is built without a snowplow. KIHA181 cars placed in the middle of formations are fitted with a front gangway
- The Shiokaze / Ishizuchi 8-car set includes a series KIHA181-100 converted to a lead car: sealed toilet and washroom end windows, shorter equipment compartment with no small window adjacent to it, and no front rain gutter
- Kiroha 180-2 / -3 are converted from series KIRO 180-100 and reproduce the catering prep room in the original toilet/washroom location and include small windows. The 8-car set Kiroha 180-7 is converted from series KIRO 180-200 with large windows like KIHA180; part of the conductor and passenger compartment windows were replaced with small windows due to conductor compartment placement, and the sealed emergency door area retains a remaining drip strip
