DD13 is Japan’s first domestically produced diesel shunting locomotive. From 1958, 416 units were mass-produced over nine years. The DD13 pioneered full-scale adoption of hydraulic transmission for mainline locomotives that followed. It helped modernize small and medium marshalling yards across the country by eliminating smoke, and worked in shunting, short-distance freight hauling, and on some lines as a passenger hauler. Toward the end of the JNR era it was phased out by changes in freight operations and was not inherited by JR companies, but transferred or similar units still operate at some private railways.
Key features and benefits
- Authentic DD13 sound card optimized for model railways and soundbox systems
- Realistic running sounds based on on-site recordings of preserved and similar units, including flange squeal
- Includes a variety of authentic sounds: engine noise, braking, coupling and uncoupling, and reverser operation performed just before departure or immediately after stopping
- Sound-synchronized type card: acceleration and deceleration follow the running sound for an operating feel like driving the real locomotive
- Synchronization setting memory: the card saves the controller priority mode on/off setting and the last synchronization mode when the soundbox power is turned off, so your preferred setting remains at next startup
- Ideal for recreating shunting at small JNR-era yards, terminal operations of modern freight trains, and dockside railway switching
- Includes a function label compatible with soundbox controllers in the package
