Kato 5316-2 OHA 35 Blue Standard Type (N scale)

Series OHA 35 is one of the representative prewar passenger coach types of the Japanese National Railways. More than 2,000 cars were mass produced, making it the most numerous passenger coach series in Japan. Introduced in 1938 with gabled and round roof styles, one meter wide passenger windows, TR23 bogies, and a welded-heavy structure. Prewar production ended in 1942, but manufacturing resumed after the war and, due to material shortages and changes in construction methods, a distinct postwar form emerged. Later models adopted the domestically produced TR34 bogies with roller bearings, replacing the plain-bearing TR23. These coaches were widely assigned across the country and used on services from express trains to local trains.
