The TGV Sud-Est, France's first-generation high-speed train, was introduced on Europe's first high-speed rail line, the LGV Sud-Est line (Paris–Lyon). Initially operated on conventional lines before the line's inauguration in 1981, it began operations at a top speed of 260 km/h. Two years later, with the line's extension, its maximum speed increased to 270 km/h, surpassing Japan's Shinkansen and garnering attention as the world's fastest train. Through various updates to the line and railcars, its top speed improved to 300 km/h, and it continued active service for many years. Even after the real train's retirement, the iconic orange paint of the first generation remains highly popular.
