Description

The ED79 is a locomotive designed exclusively for the Seikan Tunnel section, which opened in 1988. It is an AC electric locomotive for both passenger and freight use, derived from modifying the JNR ED75 series 700. Optimized for the unique environment within the Seikan Tunnel, it excelled in single-unit operations for passenger trains and double-heading for freight trains.

- Models the version belonging to the JR Hokkaido Hakodate Transport Depot Seikan Detachment (formerly the Goryokaku Depot). Represents the style from 2010, featuring a single-arm pantograph on the 2-end side (Hakodate side).
- Maintains the compact exterior design passed down from the ED75 series.
- Realistically replicates the distinctive roof equipment of AC electric locomotives using metal wires and green insulators.
- The H rubber on the front windows and side light windows is replicated in black. The crew cabin side windows are depicted with aluminum sash windows.
- Front window wipers are represented in silver.
- Standard with Arnold couplers, includes a replacement knuckle coupler.
- Selectable manufacturer's plates: "Toshiba," "Hitachi," "Mitsubishi." Selectable number plates: "4," "7," "13," "14."
- Equipped with a coreless motor for smooth and quiet operation. Capable of hauling full sets of sleeper express trains such as "Cassiopeia," "Hokutosei," and "Twilight Express" (with interior lighting).
- Compatible with quick head mark changes. Includes head marks for "Hokutosei" and "Cassiopeia."
