The H5 Series debuted in 2016 as the first Shinkansen for JR Hokkaido. It is based on JR East's E5 Series, with some modifications to its interior and exterior. The basic appearance and color scheme are similar to the E5 Series, but it features a lavender-colored stripe known as "Aya Lavender," and a symbol mark inspired by Hokkaido and the White Falcon on five cars of the train set. Like the E5 Series, it is actively serving routes like the "Hayabusa" which connects Tokyo to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto.
