- The 14 series seating coaches were introduced in 1972 as passenger coaches with equipment comparable to limited express trains, featuring simple reclining seats and passenger windows with heat absorbing glass. They served widely on temporary limited expresses, group charter trains, and express services mainly in Honshu and Kyushu.

- Tail light on the brake compartment side of SuhaFu 14 / OhaFu 15 is illuminated and includes an off switch.
- The brake compartment side of SuhaFu 14 / OhaFu 15 comes standard with Arnold couplers. Replacement knuckle couplers and a replacement body mount automatic coupler are included. Intermediate couplings between cars are equipped with body mount automatic couplers.
- SuhaFu 14 / OhaFu 15 uses a convertible destination name display with settings for "Express", "Tsubasa", "Odoriko (illustration)", and blank.
- Side displays are plain white. A sticker sheet is included with destination displays and various train labels.
