Description

The Nankai Electric Railway series 6000 is a 20-meter commuter EMU introduced in 1962 for the Koya Line. A total of 72 cars were built; more than 60 years later, 20 cars remain in active service. It debuted as an all-stainless-steel train built by Tokyu Car under a technical partnership with the U.S. Budd Company, featuring an unpainted corrugated body, distinctive ventilators, and Pioneer III bogies. In 1985 the fleet received refurbishment, air conditioning retrofits, and bogie replacements, creating a distinctive heavy roofline with distributed air-conditioning units and different bogie types between SAHA6600 cars and other cars. From 1992 a blue and orange stripe livery was applied and the cab-side car number plate on the leading car was changed to an NANKAI logo nameplate. After 57 years with no retirements, scrapping began in 2019 following introduction of new rolling stock.

KATO has added the Nankai series 6000 to its Kansai private railway lineup. This model realistically reproduces the corrugated stainless-steel body typical of Showa-era stainless cars, single-leaf doors, and the unique roof-mounted equipment shapes.

Product features and specifications:
- Specially modeled as a 6-car set in the circa 1992 appearance based on 6029F (4 cars) and 6913F (2 cars).
- Reproduces the old company crest, green car number plates, and various body skirt nameplates.
- Front destination display preinstalled as "Local Kawachinagano". Includes replacement plates for "Section Rapid Namba", "Semi-Express Senboku Komyoike", and a blank plate.
- Accurately reproduces the post-conversion appearance after close-coupling conversion, carbody refurbishment, air-conditioning retrofit, and bogie replacement; includes added front and side display units and car number plates mounted on the front gangway door.
- All leading cars feature illuminated head and tail lights, service type lamps, and front destination displays. Lights are powered by warm white LEDs and include an on/off switch.
- Service type lamp lighting can be selected between two modes: all lamps on or lamps on only on the conductor side, by inserting or removing light-guide parts.
- Faithful reproduction of the characteristic corrugated body texture and stainless-steel surface appearance.
- Detailed rooftop modeling of distributed air-conditioning units, two-tier piping, and lower-frame cross-arm pantograph and other distinctive roof equipment.
- Bogies reflect post-air-conditioning retrofit replacements: SAHA6600 cars are fitted with Minden-Deutz type FS-355 bogies, while the other cars use S-type Minden FS-092/392 bogies.
- Slotless motor provides smooth and quiet running performance.
- Body-mounted close-couplers without hooks are used on all cars. Includes a single-stage electric connector and draft gear that can be mounted on the front end.

- Compatible with interior lighting kit Kato 11-211 (11-212)
