EF58 No. 61 was designated as a locomotive exclusively for the Imperial Train from the moment it was ordered in July 1953. Its body is painted a deep crimson color known as "tameiro," boasting a beautiful exterior with a stainless steel decorative stripe and an unpainted, polished undercarriage.
It has towed numerous Imperial Trains since the Showa era, and has also been active in various events, including towing the Orient Express '88 in 1988.
