Until the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen section between Kanazawa and Tsuruga in March 2024, the Hokuriku region saw many conventional limited express trains such as the Thunderbird and Shirasagi operating to/from Osaka and Nagoya, making the Hokuriku Main Line known as a highway of limited expresses. After the Shinkansen reached Tsuruga, those two services were shortened to Tsuruga, while the Noto Kagaribi continued to run from Kanazawa up the Noto Peninsula to Nanao and Wakura Onsen, becoming the sole remaining conventional limited express serving the surrounding area. The series 683-2000, formerly used on Thunderbird services, now handles this operation.
