The 313 series was introduced in 1999 and has become the face of JR Central's commuter and suburban areas, featuring specifications tailored to the line of use and a variety of car types. The 5000 and 5300 series are based in the Ogaki train district and are actively used throughout the Chukyo region. Inside, they feature all-reversible cross seats, and a notable characteristic is the implementation of inter-car dampers and semi-active devices in the 5000 series to enhance ride comfort during high-speed travel. The 5000 series comes in a 6-car configuration, while the 5300 series is in a 2-car configuration, supporting operations like the "New Rapid" with formations of up to 8 cars.
