The 313 series debuted in 1999 with various specifications and a diverse lineup tailored to different routes, becoming the face of JR Central's commuter and suburban trains. The 5000 and 5300 series belong to the Ogaki Train Depot and are widely active in the Chukyo region. They feature all-reversible cross seats and are equipped with body dampers and, in the 5000 series, semi-active devices to improve ride comfort at high speeds. The 5000 series consists of six-car sets, while the 5300 series comprises two-car sets, with "New Rapid" services sometimes seeing operations of up to eight-car formations.
