TAKI1000 entered service in 1993 as a high-performance tank car capable of operating at a maximum speed of 95 km/h to accelerate freight train operations. It was improved and produced over 28 years, reaching a production total of 1,008 cars by 2021. From 2024, cars featuring the COSMO mark on the body sides have appeared, mainly seen on trains from Hama Goi Station, home to the Cosmo Oil Chiba Refinery, bound for Koriyama, Utsunomiya, Kuragano, Hachioji and Minami-Matsumoto.
