- The series 883 was introduced in 1995 to speed up services and improve passenger experience on the Nippo Main Line. It was JR Kyushu’s first tilting train and Japan’s first AC tilting train used in revenue service. Front-end styling varies by production year. After refurbishment from 2005 the fleet was unified with a deep metallic blue livery. In 2025 the first set AO-1 received a 30th anniversary commemorative livery and operates with this special wrap for a limited period.
