EF81 No. 81 was painted in Red No. 13, commonly called Rose Pink, for the 1985 Tsukuba Expo as the Imperial train locomotive. With silver side bands and silver painted details, it hauled the Imperial Train No. 1 formation twice and actively served pulling services such as Orient Express ’88 and Hokutosei. Later it carried the Hokutosei livery with a shooting star mark, and in August 2014 it was restored to the Rose Pink Red No. 13 paint, attracting wide attention.
