The series 50 passenger cars were introduced in 1977 as standard coaches to replace older-style cars and served on local trunk-line ordinary trains. They are mainly classified as the series 50-0 for Honshu without electric heating, the series 50-2000 equipped with electric heating, and the series 50 type 51 for Hokkaido.
The Ohafu 50 includes a conductor's compartment and was used in flexible formations ranging from over 10-car trains down to 2-car sets.
This product models the series 50-2000 with electric heating in the post-JR-transition appearance, with the JR mark added to the Ohafu 50 side.
- Reproduces the series 50 passenger car nicknamed the Red Train as the Ohafu 50 in the post-JR-transition form with JR mark applied.
- JR mark, car numbers, and depot assignment markings for Akita (Aki) are newly created for authenticity.
- Ohafu 50 tail lights on both ends switch according to the direction of travel. An off switch is included so the lights can be turned off, allowing realistic appearance when the car is coupled in the middle of a formation.
- Roof comes standard with integrated ventilators. By using the separately sold 11-551 series 50 passenger car upgrade parts set, the ventilators can be replaced with separate parts.
- Standard coupler is an Arnold coupler mounted to the bogie. Body-mount couplers can be fitted by using the separately sold telescopic coupler set.
- The 3-car set storage box can additionally accommodate two locomotives (excluding H-class) and two passenger cars.
- Compatible with interior lighting kit Kato 11-211 (11-212)
