The series 50 passenger cars were introduced in 1977 to replace older-style coaches and served as versatile general-purpose cars on regional trunk-line local services. Variants include the series 50-0 for Honshu without electric heating, the series 50-2000 with electric heating, and the series 50 type 51 type for Hokkaido. The Ohafu 50 features a conductor’s compartment and was used in formations ranging from over 10 cars to compact 2-car sets. This model represents the series 2000 with electric heating in the post-JR transition appearance, featuring the JR logo on the side of the OHAFU 50.
