The Izu Kyuko series 2100 was designed and manufactured as a proposal for rolling stock for the 21st century. It debuted in 1985 and is popularly known as "Resort 21." The train features large front windows, stepped observation seats in the leading cars, window-facing seating for enjoying sea views, and large continuous panoramic windows on the seaward side. The livery differs between left and right sides, giving the train a distinctive and varied appearance depending on the viewing angle.
