EF57 is a pre-war electric passenger locomotive that represents Japan National Railways, having been introduced in 1940. It features a majestic style with pilot truck decks at both ends. Originally playing a significant role on the Tokaido Main Line, pulling express trains like "Tsubame," it later moved to the Tohoku Main Line, equipped with electric heating devices for passenger cars and serving express trains such as "Hakkoda" and "Tsugaru," as well as regular trains.
The standout No. 1 unit, known for a squared-off body inherited from EF56's second generation (8-12), and a centrally-positioned pantograph, has a distinct appearance from units numbered 2 and up.
