Series EF65-0 was introduced as a DC freight locomotive for flat routes to improve the mid-to-high speed acceleration shortfall of the EF60 and to promote standardization. Production increased as freight train electrification progressed on various lines, and a total of 135 units were manufactured by 1970.
After the JR transition, these locomotives continued to be active mainly as freight haulers, but the units inherited by JR Central also hauled series 14 seating cars and Joyful Trains. In particular, No. 111 was even used to haul Orient Express '88, demonstrating service beyond its original freight role.
Option parts and features
- Models the series EF65-0 appearance from after the JR transition to around 1990.

- Selectable number plates: 106, 110, 111, 112. Maker plates included: Toyo Kisha; Nippon Sharyo and Fuji.
- Quick headmark compatible. Includes headmarks: Kinboshi and Euro Liner.
