IJN Shokaku 1/700 Scale Plastic Model Kit —PLUS Version
Overview
- Highly detailed 1/700 scale plastic model kit of the lead ship of the Shokaku class Imperial Japanese Navy aircraft carriers.
- Available in two versions: STD (standard) and PLUS, with the PLUS version including additional clear parts for enhanced realism.
- Designed for assembly with glue and intended for modelers who will paint and finish the kit.
- Main molded color is gray to encourage painting and weathering.
Historical motif
- Model represents Shokaku as she appeared at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack and shortly thereafter.
- No radar installed in this configuration. Bridge fitted with Type 94 anti air directors, with a single director on the port side.
- Additional bow and stern machine gun platforms are not installed in this wartime configuration.
- Flight deck white lines and markings reflect the December 1941 wartime condition.
- Included shipboard aircraft represent the Mitsubishi A6M Zero Model 21, Aichi D3A Type 99 carrier bomber Model 11, and Nakajima B5N Type 97 carrier attack plane Model 3.
Hull
- Left and right hull halves with internal reinforcement parts for structural strength.
- Hull sponsons supplied as separate parts to create a three dimensional appearance.
- Outboard conduit wiring and fastenings reproduced with fine engraving.
- All portholes are open to reflect a wartime appearance.
- Lower hull bottom designed to fit into the inner hull sides; the area below the waterline is not reproduced.
Flight deck
- One piece flight deck spanning bow to stern.
- Windbreak and three elevators supplied as separate parts.
- Elevators can be displayed lowered.
- Windbreak can be displayed folded or raised.
- Deck surface features finely engraved plating and wooden planking detail to enhance panel wash and weathering.
- Expansion joints and drainage gutters around the flight deck are reproduced.
- Arresting gear projection areas feature rounded recessed engraving.
- Truss structure under the flight deck is expressed with three dimensional sculpting.
Bow and stern
- Anchor deck and stern deck molded separately from hull sides.
- Anchor deck includes integrated bollards and anchor supports.
- Deck surfaces engraved with very fine non slip texture.
- Flight deck support stanchions supplied as separate parts for realistic individual shapes.
- Chrysanthemum crest provided as both integrated sculpt and a separate replacement part.
- Two level aft boat deck reproduced with separate parts.
- Boat cradles included as part of the deck plus replacement realistic cradle parts.
- Cradles show lightening holes and pad shapes in fine detail.
- Boats included: 12 meter and 11 meter launches, 13 meter special cargo boat, 9 meter cutter, and 6 meter dinghies.
- 12 meter and 11 meter launches include replacement parts optimized for painting.
- 13 meter cargo boat replacement parts include separate wooden floor and canvas sections.
- 9 meter cutter supplied both as a single molded part and a two piece version for easier painting.
- Training gun loading gear and stern signal lamp provided as separate parts.
Bridge and funnels
- Bridge base molded as left and right split parts.
- Bridge windows integrated with the navigation bridge part and molded in gray.
- Binocular telescope part included to increase detail of the anti aircraft control station.
- Ladders, signal lamps and other fine fittings provided as independent parts.
- 60 cm signal searchlight supplied as a transparent part in the PLUS version; STD version molded in gray.
- Both funnels are upper and lower split parts with accurate U shaped profiles, emergency smoke outlets, and other characteristic features.
- Internal guide vanes and grille at the funnel tips supplied as separate parts.
Anti aircraft armament
- 12.7 cm twin high angle gun mounts provided as separate parts for shielded and unshielded configurations.
- Realistic replacement parts for 12.7 cm twin high angle gun A1 type and Type 2 shielded mounts included.
- Wide elevation range can be represented, with gun sight shutters available in open or closed options.
- 25 mm triple machine guns supplied as finely detailed multi part assemblies rather than one piece units.
- Gun mounts and barrels are separate parts to allow accurate multi color painting.
Fittings
- Mooring bitts and booms supplied as separate parts from the hull sides.
- Mooring booms selectable for deployed or stowed display.
- Gangways provided separately to reproduce the ship at anchor.
- Navigation sidelights for the forward sides included as dedicated parts.
Shipboard aircraft
- Three aircraft types included, two of each type for a total of six aircraft.
- Included aircraft: Mitsubishi A6M Zero Model 21, Aichi D3A Type 99 carrier bomber Model 11, Nakajima B5N Type 97 carrier attack plane Model 3.
- Aircraft feature separate canopy, propeller, landing gear and ordnance or drop tank parts for enhanced detail and realistic finishing.
Decals
- Decal sheets include flight deck white lines and deck markings, naval ensigns, national flags, aircraft Hinomaru markings, stern ship name options, aft mast white lines, draft marks and other hull markings.
- Flight deck markings cover Pearl Harbor operations, Indian Ocean operations and the Battle of the Coral Sea.
- Stern ship name decals supplied in both gold and solid naval gray fill options.
- Flight deck marking sheet has been newly reviewed and created.
