About the Aircraft

The Fiat CR.42 Falco is a biplane fighter aircraft used actively during World War II. Developed as an evolution of the Fiat CR.32 biplane fighter, it entered service in 1935. The aircraft first flew in 1938 and began operations in 1939, continuing its activity until the end of the war. The biplane is notable for its design where the upper wing is larger than the lower wing, providing excellent maneuverability. Powered by a Fiat A.74R1C.38 air-cooled radial engine, it reached a top speed of 441 km/h. Its armament included one Breda SAFAT 7.7mm machine gun and one Breda SAFAT 12.7mm machine gun as fixed weaponry, with later models being equipped with two Breda SAFAT 12.7mm machine guns. The aircraft served as a fighter and also for ground attacks and night combat missions. Besides the Italian Air Force, it was operated by the German military.
