The DD51 type is a diesel locomotive that appeared in 1962, and is active as a standard type for non-electrified sections.
Regular operation ended in March 2021, and it is now used for temporary trains and rail ballast transportation.
The 500th generation appeared as a division corresponding to the double heading, and was active all over the country except Shikoku.
