The Hojo Railway is a third-sector railway that connects Ao and Hojo Town in Hyogo Prefecture and was born in April 1985 as a result of the conversion from the Hojo Line of the National Railways.
The Kiha 40-535 series is a former JR (JNR) diesel car that will be introduced to the Hojo Railway for the purpose of increasing transportation capacity.
It was delivered to the Hojo Railway in December 2021, and preparations have been made for the start of operation since then, and commercial operation is scheduled to start on March 13, 2022.
